Topic | Does chess count as a sport? |
banananor 08/16/22 10:48:27 AM #16: | i'm sure there's an official answer, but i have my own headcanon definitions. to me, a sport a) has a component of physical interaction, and b) involves playing against a specific opponent you have to respond to strategically if you have A without B, you have something like the high jump, 100 meter dash, or shotput events- pretty much anything you'd traditionally associate with the olympics. Golf and bowling fall into that category as well. I'd call these athletic competitions, but not sports. if you have B without A, you have something like chess or competitive starcraft. I'd call these something- competitive games maybe- but not sports the lines do get blurry, though. maybe chess and starcraft are a sub-category of sports that subtracts the athleticism portion --- You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
