Brad Taste in Music. I've watched Fantano for years, mostly just as background noise, because I like his voice and he comes across as a collected and knowledgeable professional. And when his personality shines through, it's a really fun channel to watch. That being said, the show is just him talking and giving really thought out opinions on music. There's only so much you can hear someone else describe how a song sounds.

Brad Taste in Music - while also a Fantano bro to a point - is a much more entertaining channel. He actually plays music in his videos and reacts to it, he's played both Phoebe Bridgers albums which is just a whole fucking trip to watch someone sit through. He also does themed videos where people leave song suggestions for the theme, i.e. worst songs ever or most.poorly aged songs ever. He goes at the music with a similar passion to a figure like Fantano, but he's not above giving shit a pass just because he really likes it, haters be damned. I'd recommend one of his themed videos, maybe something positive like Best Songs Ever. That, or look up an artist you like and see how Brad feels about their music.

Another music channel I'd recommend, despite being significantly more clickbaity and harder to recommend, is Justin Hawkins Rides Again. The lead singer of the Darkness has his own YouTube channel where he talks about music news and stuff like that. The video titles are pure clickbait bullshit, but I really like listening to what Justin Hawkins has to say about stuff.

And the thing about music youtubers like this is that the goal is never to hold them as a shining compass of objectivity in regards to music. Fantano doesn't know shit about ABBA. Brad Taste in Music is just vibing and having a good time. Justin Hawkins can be kind of kneejerk and smarmy. But all three channels are informative and entertaining in their own way, and enjoying them is one way to expand your musical palate. Hawkins recently spotlighted a Scottish singer named Paolo Nutini, and that shit is so far up my alley that I'm planning to do a deep dive into his music. Fantano's King Gizzard reviews are how I began to really keep up with their music, because Nonagon Infinity was a tough fucking nut to crack and seeing someone whose opinion I respected - whether I agreed with his takes or not - was one way to stay engaged with the band even when I was struggling with the music. Brad hosts these mediashare streams where you pay to send songs in for him to react to, and it's a great way to find new music. I found like a sci-fi hip hop group a while back, I didn't keep up with them but the music was pretty entertaining.

There's a whole new generation of music youtubers who are shaking up the formula, and I'm really into it.
