If you're trying to be efficient with diamonds, don't buy any house decorations. The contractor has a number of options that have actual gameplay effects that cost diamonds. I've got all weapons and beaten the first two bosses with every weapon so far. I have all the mirror options unlocked and completed a big chunk of the underworld renovations.
