This would have been the smart thing to do. But apparently they aren't smart. The main reason I can think of to close HBOMax instead is that they think too many people are getting it for "free" with AT&T phone plans and cable subscriptions. So they want to use Discovery+ or make a newer service that everybody has to pay for. On a side note, thank god Sony was able to buy Crunchyroll from Warner before the Discovery merger.
