It's a really strange situation. The judge part was agreed upon in the new cba, as was the part where if the NFL disagreed they can appeal and now its up to Goodell (or someone he appoints). The judge found him guilty of everything the NFL accused him of, but used the past punishments of similar crimes as precedent. So now the NFL is trying to create a new precedent about crimes of this magnitude while also at the same time saying "fuck what we agreed upon it's still up to the NFL".

The entire thing is a mess.

edit - just now seeing that Goodell appointed someone to hear the appeal. Someone who has worked for the NFL in the past and worked specifically on prosecuting sex crimes.
