Also Cat Hood has great elemental properties, and she can use Magus Rod for the sweet +7 Magic. Teach her some decent spells, ignore Sketch, cast spells with her and she's one of the best party members. Do anything else with her and she's one of the worst. Strago can be decent but only if you go out of your way to get his best Lores. Big Guard is the best support ability in the game, Pearl Wind is pretty good healing, and he has some decent attack Lores.
