A truly underrated story. I absolutely love anything to do with industrial horror, and here, mixed in with Eldritch and heady sci-fi themes, A Machine for Pigs crafts a truly grotesque tale of both mind and body, reconciling the individual worker drone with a worldwide metaphor for human butchery. All the while, main protagonist Mandus confronts both future and past trauma within his own self, his cruel cycle examined as he creates misery while he himself tries to avoid it in a potential event he has foreseen, inventing this Machine that gains sentience and devours people to fuel its goal of preventing other future wars and calamities. It's the age old question "do the ends justify the means" seen through the lens of a slipping sanity and turn of the century anxieties, while the physical side of the sacrifice is portrayed excellently through the Manpigs, which are both akin to meat to be sliced up and used while also taking away their humanity, the way the rich and powerful like Mandus and others see the world. The way AMFP shows us a distorted worldview and the lengths people will go to reach god-hood is nothing short of masterful to me.
