Last time I went into Wal-Mart there was like 3 people working there and two of them were guarding the door. Corporations are def profiting off of this.

.....I am only going to say this once in this thread. If you want to blame anyone, blame the moron cashiers who don't show up for work. You as an outsider look at it and say "oh, the self checkouts are taking away from real cashier jobs". Me, as someone who actually worked in those places, "no, we schedule 10 people to show up for work, only 3 actually showed up".

Those self checkouts were installed to lower the amount of work the cashiers who show up for every shift have to do. Because sometimes we had lineups in the dozens if not a hundred people in our lineup. On one of my work days we had 25 people scheduled to work registers. Only 3 people actually showed up to work the entire day.

People would choose to "enjoy the day" or "hang out with friends", rather than work their scheduled shift. And it isn't 100 percent their fault. Corporations are just as much at fault for this. They don't fire anyone to set an example, and many times they reschedule or ignore preset schedules just to fill voids in shifts. I know that one day one of the managers got pissed off at me for my coworker going home at 10 pm, instead of his scheduled 10:30 pm. The issue wasn't with him. He was scheduled to work until 10 pm, they changed his schedule overnight without telling him.

It's like.... don't get pissed off at me because you guys suck at telling your employees that the shift has changed, or even talking to them in general.
