I want to give it a 10 since it's my favorite game of all time but I won't, I'll be objective. Anyway, I still do love the central mystery of the game - exploring and investigating this creepy mansion in the middle of nowhere, filled with booby-traps, BOWs, and uncovering files in a conspiracy that plays out in the background years ago. REmake is one of the most thoughtful video game remakes ever made - everything is done up with class and genuine fright & horror. The story of The Trevors is genuinely one of the most grotesque and tragic storylines the series has ever touched upon - the body horror of Lisa's appearance, the mentions of Lisa ripping off someone's face, her father building the very death trap he himself gets stuck in. It's hard to really think of Wesker's betrayal as a twist anymore, but still, the game keeps its secret well-guarded, and then having it revealed through a projector slide puzzle that Wesker isn't just a traitor, he actively HELPED make some of these things you've been fighting, it actually hits pretty damn hard when you think about it. Your trusty captain was against you the whole time. Add in Barry's betrayal, a father just trying to protect his wife and daughters, and the revelation hits even harder, since Barry is a helpful partner and friend who adds levity to many situations, even if he's toned down from the original game (good for the game's tone, not so good if you like unintentional comedy). I'd say the one thing I don't like very much here is Rebecca - her characterization as the frightened but nonetheless eager rookie doesn't work so well when RE Zero exists; with how closely these games were developed, I feel like a bit more synergy between the two projects would've went a long way.
