Shit happens in relationships were not privy to and he has well-documented his struggles with addiction Its just a complete lack of awareness here. Must be extremely rich comedian syndrome or something. Youd think Mulaney would be aware hes very popular among queer people, and that his audience is primarily young progressive millennials/gen-z. This wasnt an announced appearance or anything. He could have simply done nothing. Instead he actively chose to support Chappelle.
