I am disappointed that that is what qualifies as news these days.

If anything, this is actually more important to draw attention to than most world events. A ton of people tacitly assume that apps like these are somehow set up to prevent unwanted large orders like this from going through, whether because the correct user made an error, a child was playing with it, or somebody maliciously did so. The reality is that they aren't, as much as they perhaps should be (parental controls on by default, verification calls for orders exceeding a certain threshold... there are quite a few different options for preventing this that the companies don't implement simply because they like the ill-gotten money), so reporting occasionally on stories like this helps keep consumers aware of how eager corporations are to prey on any carelessness or oversight they can. Report enough on it, and it might even become bad enough PR that the companies involved start introducing protective measures to avoid the issue moving forward.
