Come on man that's basically everyday life in most of America. At least you're getting paid for it while dealing with their loopy bullshit. Just pretend like you care about them a little while going about your job and shit should go smoothly.

Yeah, this basically. I mean, there are occasions where I'll genuinely sympathize with a customer (such as a week or so ago when one said they were having an awful day because their dog died) but most of the time it's like... just act like you care and that you're somewhat interested, they're generally just trying to talk to pass the time while you scan their shit through or whatever anyway, of course you don't really care (most of the time) if they have a good day or not but with a bit of practice it's easy enough to act like you do. (Or, maybe I'm just a really good actor and should consider switching careers to film or television, I dunno... probably just the "it's easy", though.)
