Top 50 metro rankings:

6 . Washington, DC (comparable to Philly)
20. Baltimore (comparable to Denver)
22. Charlotte (comparable to Orlando)
30. Cincinnati (comparable to Las Vegas)
35. Nashville (comparable to Cleveland)
37. Virginia Beach (comparable to San Jose)
41. Raleigh (comparable to Milwaukee)
44. Richmond
45. Louisville (comparable to Salt Lake City)

Lots of big places in green and many of them are younger.

side note: weird that Raleigh and Durham are considered two different metros, or combined they would be around 30.

edit: I left out Charlotte at first! whoops
Yeah, it makes sense when you add it all up, since NC, VA, MD, and TN are all reasonably big states and it has a few chunks of other places too - my point of surprise still makes sense I think though since every other area's second-largest metro is bigger than Baltimore (except for the purple area which I originally thought included Philadelphia, so now I'm a little bit surprised by the purple area too, but I think both the green and purple areas have a lot of suburban sprawl compared to the other regions)
