Funny talking point, but no. They didn't have an organized response to the Florida recount and basically legally fucked themselves with a pretty haphazard strategy that let courts pretty easily toss their attempts to selectively recount aside. Not to mention that the Dems fucked up all over the place in 2000, including somehow dropping the ball in NH which would've won them the presidency even without Florida.

No, they won. Their response to the recount being bad is irrelevant. Anyone watching that recount at the time knew that if the recount had continued Gore would overtake Bush. The Supreme Court put a stop to that for arbitrary reasons that were never properly explained.

You also forget that Florida was straight up *called* for Gore. That is not done lightly. Those calls are done scientifically it's not random commentators going "this looks good for Gore". But a heavy Gore area was coming back disproportionately in favor of Pat Buchanan due to the butterfly ballot design.
