yeah I would try to see it not as wagering money but actually as spending it. don't even see it as losing money. start with an amount, and if you consume that amount, you're "broke" and you stop. I did this once with $50 and poker; I didn't look at it that I "gambled" and lost $50, rather I spent $50 to play some poker.

(probably this works fine until you start winning a little, and then you can start to see the money you put in as an investment that has opportunity to grow, which then leads you to justify putting more money in; but this would be the mindset to avoid completely.)


This is exactly why my dad refused to give me some money to gamble when we went to Las Vegas when I was broke. He said he's not scared of me losing some money, but that I'd win some money and get addicted to gambling.
