I did this once with $50 and poker; I didn't look at it that I "gambled" and lost $50, rather I spent $50 to play some poker.

(probably this works fine until you start winning a little, and then you can start to see the money you put in as an investment that has opportunity to grow, which then leads you to justify putting more money in; but this would be the mindset to avoid completely.)

This is exactly why my dad refused to give me some money to gamble when we went to Las Vegas when I was broke. He said he's not scared of me losing some money, but that I'd win some money and get addicted to gambling.
