You missed my point.

Most kids, if not made to read a book, will never read *insert random book* in the first place.

That was true when I went through school in the mid-2000s. Its doubly true in today's social media driven world. Why would a kid spend several hours reading a book of their own volition when they could spend several hours watching a television program, or play some fast paced video games or phone games?

If you don't mandate it, to most kids the book will never exist.

Your point is entirely different from the topic at hand. Conservatives across the nation are using their manufactured outrage against critical race theory and neo-Nazi outrage to ban books from black authors, and anything referencing black history, the holocaust, etc. from schools entirely.

Not being forced to read a book that still exists in schools for kids to choose to read is a separate topic.
