Does a phenomenal job of portraying a zombie apocalypse using limited means. Characters are instantly memorable - Leon, Claire, Sherry, Ada - talk about a perfect all-star line-up. You know who these characters are from design alone, and then factor in their hidden depths of each of them, especially the familial focus of Claire and Sherry, and BAM this is leagues above what the original was going for. Files set-up perfect conspiracies and thrilling discoveries and indeed I find it impressive how well the game actually explores police and corporate corruption behind the front-facing horror of the zombies and mutations. The scenarios are interwoven to great effect (hi remake) and though there are minor silly things, like Ada and Leon falling in love so fast, the whirlwind of it all and sweeping grand emotions make this a survival horror gem to remember.

Some of the positives are still there - the conspiratorial nature especially, heightened due to added noir elements from Ada and Mr. X. Some of the character connections feel more fleshed out as well - Claire to Sherry feels more like a big/little sis combo than the guardian nature of Claire in the original, while Leon and Ada clash more and their romance made more ambiguous, underplayed, more clear that Ada is playing Leon rather than falling for him. The structure is where this game's story really falls apart however. No cohesion between scenarios, beat-for-beat scenes repeated to nonsensical confusion, and little-to-no interaction between the game's two leads. I WAS not swept up in this game's plot despite its higher production value and it's sad because I truly enjoyed the individual character work otherwise on full display.

For the record, just take my original score. I just couldn't not talk about and rate both of 'em.
