Grouping them does nothing. The home screen is just as disorderly as ever. The All Software screen is just as disorderly as ever. The menu that does let you sort them the way you want is 3 screens deep in the interface. You finally have a place where you know where on the screen a game will be, but it's just as cumbersome to get to as when you had to search for it.

It streamlines finding a game that you haven't played recently, and finding a game that you have played recently is already straightforward enough that it doesn't really need streamlining (unless, again, you're the sort to have a dozen games on the go at once, in which case a "Currently Playing" group is still going to benefit you). It is indeed a suboptimal, somewhat cumbersome way to do it that leaves plenty of room for improvement (because it's Nintendo), but it's still at least somewhat beneficial.
