In April of 2017, I spent around $1500 on PC parts. $1500 was a bit much for what I got, mainly because I was looking for very specific things (I bought a $200 motherboard, and a $150 cube case). This was also like a month after Zen 1 came out (this was intentional) and I got myself a Ryzen 7 1700. At the time I already had an RX 470 that I didn't really need to upgrade. I also had moved my main SSD (an older 250 GB crucial drive) to a newer Samsung one and used the older one as an OS disk (replacing my older 120GB Samsung).
In 2019 I purchased an RTX 2070 for $550. An RTX 2070 goes for like $900 now and a 3060 goes for $600. I got one of the higher tier 2070s at the time.

That's all I've done since 2019. I still do not see any real need to upgrade. I am waiting for a decent Intel ITX board (that doesn't cost $500+) with dual NVME and DDR5 to come around before making an reasonable upgrades. GPU is here to stay for the forseeable future, but there really aren't any games out there that "challenge" it right now (or at least I don't play them).

Keep in mind that money isn't really important to me and that $1500 was well worth it as I am on my computer 17 hours a day and I work from home. I cannot stress how important it is to invest into your office space if you're a shut in like myself.

Oh I should mention that I've had my PSU for almost a decade now (I spent like $50 on it in a brick and mortar store), and it probably needs to be upgraded, but I'm not overly concerned. Dead PSU will probably be a signal to start looking for a new build and get rid of my ATX setup for the ITX one I want.
