It's about the only way I'd care about it. I don't really want to play as Geralt because I feel like his story is already done (and they've already said they weren't doing another Geralt game), and I can't imagine wanting to play as any other old random non-canon Witcher from another school.

Making an entirely unique custom character (gender optional) where you have greater control over their personality and response to things in dialogue would be more appealing to me than playing as someone else where I feel like their personality is already established and there's always a "right" answer for every conversation.

Same reason I felt like any romance option other than Yennefer in Witcher 3 was "wrong". Because no matter how hard they tried to fudge things, their relationship is hard built into the entire setting.
