Both The Dark Knight and this new The Batman are good stories about a Batman stumbling into their 'true' role. This movie is a better thriller IMO while The Batman does a better job of making Bruce a dynamic character, you can see the toll being Batman takes on Bruce Wayne in the 2022 movie. In the Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne's scenes feel almost comedic, and the only problem Bruce Wayne has from being Batman is a dog bite and being sleepy during boring meetings.

Joker and Riddler are both fantastic villains. I like how in either case their plans more or less succeed and Batman is left to pick up the pieces in one manner or another. Joker was more concerned with human nature and proving people fallible, while Riddler is a dark reflection of Batman's own ideology, both of them seeking a poorly defined "vengeance" and Batman accidentally fulfilling Riddler's plans as a result.

BDSM mask Riddler is a silly costume but his performance at the end in plainclothes is so good it makes up for that.
