I don't know where in the USA you live, but my next-door neighbor made a point to draw confederate imagery on my property. My younger sibling was chased down a road by a guy in a car screaming slurs. People have been victimized by organized stalking for having the audacity to report being raped where I live. People have been threatened and harassed to the point where they were driven out of running for local political positions. My coworker's boyfriend was murdered in a gay hate crime. One of the primary heads of the right-wing extremists in my town is a pro-slavery pastor who now has nationwide clout, whose family crafted a blueprint for politically "taking over" towns with colleges and universities in order to spread their control. It's working, obviously. You know what I don't appreciate? I don't appreciate you downplaying this. These people have money, they are organized, and they've been working (and succeeding) at seizing more money and institutional power.
