Unless they are constantly dropping them, it does not solve the issue that you need 12 stones per tier to upgrade a weapon with normal smithing stone instead of the one that somber requires. Yeah, it was 12 stones per tier in Dark Souls, but you had 3 tiers instead of 8, so by the end of the game you usually had enough to upgrade several weapons. In my last play through of DS 3, I had like 5 weapons I upgraded to max, just with the junk lying around the normal levels. In Elden Ring, I struggle to upgrade even one weapon to max level with normal smithing stone. It hurts the gameplay since you don't feel like you can try out as many weapons. You kind of stick with the one you put a lot of upgrades into and treat the other weapons like collectors items.
Yeah this is me all the way. With a few very recent exceptions Ive stuck with the spiked club Ive had since the first hour or so playing (55 hrs in right now). Its at +11 and the next highest weapon I have is +4 I think.
