In my opinion you shouldn't focus on winning and losing so much when trying to get better. Yes it is a valid metric for measuring progress. But playing against players better than you who will probably be beating you most if not all of the time is fine, maybe even ideal.

i got better by getting stomped

i find pgr players semi-regularly online and i always rematch because they're the best source of challenge and the best way to improve is to fight someone who won't fall for "wifi tricks" and you can learn off them.

No offense to either of you, but this isn't good or practical advice for a casual player who just wants to play semi-seriously online but still have fun. This is the kind of thing you tell someone who's like "I want to become a pro-gamer no matter what."

Like, at the end of the day, it's a game. And losing ain't fun, especially if you're BTFO. Yeah, you're not wrong in saying that fighting people better than you helps you get better. But still, the last thing someone wants to hear is "Keep on losing". You can't get better from losing if losing discourages you and you stop playing altogether.
