The original intent was kind of boring then. TBH it suffered that "lost in translation" issue where noting is translated wrong perse, but it was primarily translated with not being wrong in mind, not with making the English version as interesting as the Japanese version. You take interesting Japanese text and turn it into technically correct but less creatively phrased English and you get a pile of mush. I'd lose accuracy over style any day.
