As long as you have fabric, thread and a sewing machine (or a needle and pincushion) you can make and/or repair items, which sometimes can be more affordable than buying them a second time. For instance many people made cloth masks during the pandemic, which helped to keep family members from getting Covid-19 (at least temporarily) until production of N-95 ramped up enough to where everyone could get them. A stopgap measure, true, but better than the option of going without and possibly coming down with Covid-19.
