This is the same reason we know that Jesus' birthday was not in December. That was star patterns but given they didn't have the weather channel the elders would surely have to figure out other ways. I'll tell you what though, I know when a storm is gonna be straight shit while it is forming and many people can tell because conditions change. There is no reason to think no one had the ability to know when a really bad storm was coming because we can do that today and we could do it then just by paying attention. It's not like he predicted it days in advance mor is it even alleging that.
