Topic	As much as I enjoy the new Game of Thrones episodes... (spoilers)

Isn't the story still mandated by what is written in the books? No, after fifth season they are working on outlines given by Martin Well ... that sounds like an absolute recipe for disaster. He hasn't written the books yet (and IMO probably never will) so this is the only way it can go forward I know, there is just no way that a writer could give an outline to a director who would perfectly carry out the vision of the original writer, especially when that director answers to a board of directors. I don't care about the "vision" as long as it is entertaining in its own right. Sometimes film and TV adaptions can get too caught up in following the story as scripture and turn out a terrible product. The problem with Game of Thrones is that the creators are good at making minor changes and merging storylines, but when they act as creators and not editors, they just fall back onto fanservice. I suspect it is exactly because of their insecurity with "not following the vision" that in the absence of that, they just have to please the fans.
