For the most important job in the nation, I think you need years of experience in a related position. You only get up to eight years as President. There is a finite time limit to your job and all on-the- job training is -- while important -- also in need of being minimized to better focus on the rest of your job.

It's already an incredibly huge responsibility for all our past Presidents. It even would have been for Hillary, and she had all sorts of related experience alongside a two-time President for a husband. Donald lacks an intellectual curiousity about how to do his job better which makes the problem even worse, but even if he was fully driven to learn it all well then it's still a far bigger risk to bet on someone to learn well and learn quickly with security, taxes, and foreign leaders than with someone with some related experience and proven motivation already.

On the plus side though, America has learned to always apply for the job of your dreams even if you don't have the resume to back it up.
