The U.S. does have its limits on hate speech, but you're really only in danger of being arrested for saying something like "I'm going to kill Jews tomorrow because I hate them." Jokes at a group's expense though are fair game.
Hell if we had laws like the UK, Trey Parker and Matt Stone would've been in jail every time there's an episode focusing on Cartman lol.

Not really. That's more of a threat than hate speech. Hate speech is protected in America. As long as you don't threaten people or incite violence, then you can pretty much say whatever mean, nasty, racist thing you want. In Europe, they don't have free speech; the have tolerated speech.
