Yeah. One one hand, it seems like a massive waste of time and resources. On the other, it's literally imprisoning someone over a harmless joke. No good side to it.

Apparently the UK has a Communications Act 2003. This act define illegal communications as “using public electronic communications network in order to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety”. Breaking this law carries a six-month prison term or fine of up to £5,000. Imagine going to jail for half a year because you were shitposting and trolling on the internet. Not even making toothless death threats, just making jokes.
