Yea piggybacking on the black people thing, I live in the middle of nowhere and I'm 7 miles north and south. The one south is mostly white people and is much bigger and more modern, the one up north has like a gas station and maybe one other store and it's like 80% black. The nearest BIG city is Albany GA which has a ton of black people and black history.

There are tons of black people all over the place down here, they are a huge part of the culture and history everywhere down here. You can't go 10 miles without seeing something you can find civil rights history on.

And yes there are racists, but there's really not many, and they're mostly old dudes who are all talk. The only thing you should have a remote fear of is being shot for trespassing on someone's property while walking through the woods, which i highly doubt you will be doing. I would say you're in way more danger walking around somewhere like Atlanta or NY at night.
