True, but our minds are more prone to remember the bad and operate based off it. Especially with it ending poorly with the bad memories being the most sore and recent it could spell problems unless you're both absolutely mature about things.
That's not to say it can't go well, or that you're both not mature. But unless you really think things can go well - that you're very sure - I wouldn't go for it because it carries the risk of making work awkward if not hellish if it ends on a sour note.
Granted, I was going on the assumption she said "yes". I can't see things getting any worse than awkward from simply asking her out - of course, what is beyond that should also be considered. I was thinking the potential that y'all get in a relationship but it ends on a bad note: it bodes poorly for workplace relations more likely than not in that case.

I have never actually been in a serious relationship so in theory I could see how things could go bad and how that would affect me, but at the same time I've never experienced that result so I can't really understand what it would be like. ---
