I'm not sure what level of stupidity was used to form that argument, but it makes no sense even at surface value. Had the US stayed with the UK, it would probably look a lot more like Canada. Thankfully it didn't. Second, given that liberals are traditional anti-war and that conservatives are for smaller, more representative government, it was likely less a matter of liberals than it was conservatives.
