Don't count out studio apartments though seriously. It's a bit more expensive then having a roomate, but it's all yours and do you REALLY need a bedroom if your a single guy? Your living room is your bedroom/entertainment room etc.

And you can get those much cheaper. I didn't check craigslist etc, but generally when studio apartments age going for $800-$900 (Which seems to be the case where you are), you can often rent a studio from someone (who has a small one in their back yard etc), for a few hundred less (possibly $600 if your lucky). It's similar to renting a room (so generally price is about the same) but, you have your own place (don't share a bathroom etc.

Also, you don't need a car, seriously. I mean yeah, it makes life easier, but most places with costs as high as yours have a decent public transportation system, and using it can often save you money vs a car anyway.

There is also (as has been recently pointed out to me) uber, which can be used for grocery shopping and occasional trips etc.

Nice thing about public transportation is you can look for a place right near it, but far enough away to drastically drop rental prices (a straight bus that travels from near your new location to where you currently work). You might need to leave for work 40 minutes early, but you can read/play games etc on the way (your just sitting in a bus), and the cost is less then gas (let alone insurance, car upkeep, regestration etc etc).

A car is nice to have when your young though and going out and having fun alot. If your doing that, or planning on starting, then yeah, get a car. If your just mainly going to work and back, shopping etc, then you might not need one.

If you have friends you get along well with, hand out on the weekend with etc, consider doing the whole roomate thing. When I was in my 20's, 3 of us rented a 2 bedroom (this was in the dino age, so a 2 bedroom in the BAY AREA (very expensive) was only $600 a month lol....can't get a 1 bedroom for less then $1600 at this point probably), anyway.....2 of us had a bedroom and shane (The 3rd) used the living room as his bedroom. It was $200 a month each for us.

With current insane prices, you can probably get a 2 bedroom for about 1500$-1800$ a month, and if you split it 3 ways that is $500-600 a month each. This can also help with other expenses as well (split utilities/cable/internet 3 ways, often food is shared and more efficent when bought en bulk (or you all order a pizza and split it 3 ways etc).

Not as much privacy, but you'll still have your own space AND you get to live with friends you like hanging out with, playing video games, dnd etc (depending what your into.

Was a freaking blast, probably the place I enjoyed living the most, and I have lived in some really nice places.

Anyway, good luck with your search!
