Reason being in the U.K they have a locking mechanism on the trolleys that requires a £1 coin to unlock them and when you return the trolley to the trolley area and relock it you get your £1 back. That sounds pretty brilliant, although I think here in America too many people would make a big stink about it violating their "personal freedom" for it to really catch on. I've seen that in new Jersey back in the day but I'm not sure if they still do it. They do that at Aldi's, but I don't think you get the money back when you return the cart.
