I wonder how many of my dedicated bellyachers will ignore this or not believe it.

Anyway, it's about 1:52 AM which is last call at the bar for sure. I just got done doing kamikaze karaoke and thank goodness that the KJ chose Cumbersome by Seven Mary Three. We ended up harmonizing because I couldn't quite get the melody.

Anyway, I go outside to smoke a cigarette and decompress with my alcohol there's a couple of chubby girls, one black and the other white, talking about race stuff. They're not being ridiculous, but I just didn't want to be anywhere near them in case they suddenly decide to start hitting on me, so I walk over the the street side of the patio. This is when I pass a small black girl and a tall white guy having a relatively heated argument involving race. I have no clue what precipitated any of it and I just didn't want to be near that shit. Luckily, the KJ (karaoke jockey) was on the other side of them so I found a place to just shoot the shit and decompress... until he eventually has to finish up doing his job.

Being the guy I am, I just can't not say something if I hear people spouting stupid shit. By this point, it was clear that the guy was taking the position of "people cry racism too much and it's a crutch that..." and she obviously had either called him a racist or had been blaming some issues in her life on racism, but either way, neither was really... talking to each other, they were just saying shit. When the guy said that again, I interrupted and basically said "hey man, it's unfair to characterize every complaint of racism as being whining and ultimately, false. Not that there aren't cases where that isn't the case, but it just isn't a good way to engage the situation."

This is when the girl says something to the effect of "right? You know rich white dudes can't understand..." and I just couldn't step on that shit fast enough. Much like in the way it isn't fair to judge someone's complaints about stuff as being unfair or illegitimate (which I think was the word I used), I said something like "look, that isn't right. How are you hoping to have good dialogue if you're gonna just judge him like that without hearing him out?" I honestly don't remember what it was that I said exactly, but I did say that that doesn't make him a racist at all.

The girl eventually walked off and the guy basically said something to the effect of "thanks man, I really wanted to bang her until all that shit." He did play a little bit of the victim card by saying "is that not racist? I mean, I'm not even rich" in regards to her calling him a rich white guy. Hell, he pointed to his 30 year old pickup truck, which got a good laugh out of me. As an answer to his question, I mean.. I guess so, but it turns out that the girl had been bitching about an ex-boyfriend, who was white, and he just took it a little too personally.

Still, it was pretty funny. We got to shooting the shit and yucking it up for a little bit before it was time to gtfo.

Anyway, sort of an odd vignette, but given how this board is, I figured it was worth sharing.

P.S. I know I'm not a good storyteller.
