I think the more pertinent questions are why you want to like something you clearly don't like by design and also why you specify this distaste of hip-hop when there are other total genres whose main motifs are repetition or verse/chorus/bridge structuring I don't think he hates it per say. I think the repetitiveness is what really gets him. If the songs were a minute or so long I think he would enjoy it.
