The thing is if it was a choice, there wouldn't be a tremendous benefit to making the choice. I guess being bi doubles your options and, if you're a guy with limited economic power, you're probably better off with a man. However, for the purposes of carrying on your genes, there's an inherent benefit in hetero due to the genetics of partner selection; and while you can use a partner's sibling (or even parent, if you need a sperm donor) for surrogacy, that's still just settling for close rather than exact. Granted, none of this would be an issue if we had the technology which would allow one partner to carry out the reproductive functions of the other gender because you'd technically have the same reproductive benefits.

Granted, if you don't care about your carrying on your genes (and, in the case of women, if you're reasonably economically self-reliant), it *might* make a lot of sense to take the choice because most people are naturally able to get along better with their own gender and taking the possibility of pregnancy off the table simplifies relations. However, given that men and women naturally complement each other, there would still be advantages for hetero.
