However, that doesn't mean he isn't a fantastic character. He's an interesting mix of smarts and luck, and that makes him unpredictable. As a reader, you want to see how he handles every obstacle put in front of him. Known Space is admittedly more about the concepts than the characters, world-building taking front seat from the smaller scale, intimate character pieces in other works of literature.
