One of the big reason none of the almighty countries (USA, Russia and China) wants to go to war is because of this. Everyone fears a nuclear apocalypse. The moment these big countries get involved in a direct war with each other, use of nukes becomes inevitable. Everyone knows that. It's also why the Cold War is the Cold War and not a WW3. Soviet Russia and USA wouldn't have gone to war with each other either. They know the repurcussions.
