It's because of convenience and snap decision making. If you're considering getting a game, many people would be willing to pay a small premium if it meant not going out to a nearby game store. The next point is regarding self control and spontaneous purchases. For some consumers, once they think they want something, if it's already at their fingertips then they won't shop around for a lower price.


And looking at it from the perspective of a distributor, physical stores have an incentive to go through their inventory, even if it means discounting some products. Digital distributors don't have that inventory issue and thus don't need to cycle.
