Bernie Sanders is probably the furthest Left politician who has some degree of power. He's also arguably the most popular politician in the USA right now, but look how that worked out for him.

Yeah, this is a good point; talking about polarization and extremes as if its equal-sided is a cop out in many ways. Like, a sizable majority of the population supports policies that are wedge issues among Democratic politicians and the liberal mainstream media.

The NYT has more columnists who deny climate change than columnists who are opposed to war in Syria.
