I beat it a few times. Though I legit got stuck at the system reset part at least twice thinking that somehow the game was broken.
That's still the worst gimmick I've ever seen in a game. Also it makes it impossible to finish in most emulators, even on some of the later Genesis models.
I use Gens, it worked fine.

That game was hard as hell. When I was a kid I couldn't get past the 4th level, the alternate future with sentinels and monsters, and that Ahab prick. I didn't know how to do a high jump with every character.
Lol yep Cyclops was the base because he had the most generic outfit. How do you do the high jump with all characters? I know it can be done, but not sure how. For that 4th level I always used the Iceman assist if I couldn't get up somewhere. At the end of the level, I switched to Nightcrawler and teleported through the wall. Still trying to beat levels 5 and 6. Yeah it was pretty hard.
You have to double-tap and hold the jump button to do a high jump. If you watch the demo you'll notice Wolverine does it to get out of a room, as a kid that always made me angry because I could never do it lol. ---
