However I did take away my son's Nintendo NES in 1986, when he was 14, because he got in trouble with the law. His mother and I were divorced, but she demanded I punish him in some way. Anyhow, I plugged in the thing, and got hooked on Metroid. Had to buy my own NES. It wasn't my first video game (I'd played an Atari 2600 and started on Pong when I was 23 in 1975), but it started a long line of game playing on consoles and PC.
