| Topic | The FAMOUS Youtuber Cr1tikal is really HATING the Switch 2!! Do you agree? |
| adjl 04/11/25 7:58:03 PM #44: | bachewychomp posted... I think Nintendo should be criticized for things like charging for a tech demo and game updates that unlock the performance. Charging for the tech demo is more funny to me than anything else. Like that's just obviously not a good idea. Nobody's really going to be missing out if they choose to skip it, so I expect it to sell horribly. Charging for upgrades is kind of a given, though. It's a bit questionable if all the upgrade entails is tweaking settings in the original games that unlock their performance, but if there's work involved in upgrading the performance beyond just "we're increasing the framerate limit," it's fair to charge for that. Really, given the number of games in recent years that have had remastered versions released a generation later at full price, $10 or $20 or whatever to upgrade your existing copy of a Switch game isn't altogether outrageous. There's room to argue that "Nintendo isn't doing anything as bad as rereleasing TLoU every other year" isn't actually a positive so much as it's just less negative, but they still end up looking pretty good by comparison. It also remains to be seen how well Switch 1 games get emulated. If the emulation isn't great, then the upgrade patches gain more value, both to the consumer and in terms of what it took to produce them. If the emulation is good enough that the stronger hardware means you end up with fewer framerate dips, then that means there's less incentive for people to buy upgrades just for performance reasons. --- This is my signature.
