What you don't do is swear off criticizing the bad for some misguided vision of unity or for self-advancement. This isn't just what she was doing and you know it. She was throwing herself into every primary before she was even inaugurated, supporting protesters against her colleagues and the speaker, and constantly elevating minor disputes to her twitter followers. When people addressed things with her behind closed doors, she immediately ran to social media to complain about it. This isn't just "criticizing the bad," she pissed off a lot of her colleagues and it's a little hard to say this was effective. A party that simply follows leadership and values conformity over breaking cycles of complicity and complacency will be a party of stagnation and will lose rather than gain people. There's no evidence that leaning more into politics as usual right now will lead us out of the wilderness. Being unable to criticize an extremely unpopular status quo because you're buddying up to the people creating it is bad, period. This is literally not what she claimed or what this says, or what she said she was going to do. She didn't take a vow to never criticize anyone or fight for what she believes, she said she'd stop pointlessly antagonizing her own party and would knock off trying to jump into every race. This wasn't criticism, other Dems were mad she tried to help primaries to get them out. And you can argue she was right to do so. Pelosi's stance was to blanket support every incumbent to keep the caucus together. But if she keeps doing that and the primaries fail, you'll have people who aren't gonna vote you into leadership. --- Ring the bells that still can ring/Forget your perfect offering/There is a crack in everything/That's how the light gets in."- RIP, Leonard Cohen ...
