I appreciate your honesty and need to inform you that your impression is absolutely wrong. bfslick gave a great breakdown that I can't really add much to. America isn't only difficult to enter illegally, but even legally immigrating is a nightmare unless you're some 1% sort of worker.

I will expand on the overstaying visa thing though: It's basically impossible to stop that without clairvoyance. The vast majority of illegal immigrants start out as legal visitors. They don't sneak in, they literally come through the front doors with legit papers. There is no amount of border enforcement or wall that can stop that and there literally can't be enough enforcement agents to keep tabs on all visitors. It's an unsolvable problem unless you want to stop everyone entering the country, which would destroy the economy basically overnight.
