Here's something my friend and i happened to talk about last night: the first season feels really compelling when you think the cast will be constrained to 1-A and fleshing them out. The first tournament arc itself is good, but what you won't realize at the time is that the real purpose of the tournament arc is to show who in this class matters and who doesn't, and most of them don't matter at all including many of the likable characters. From there MHA bloats hard with too many characters introduced who only ever have very little to do leading to inevitable frustration.
