| Topic | Why are Canadians so racist against immigrants? |

Compared to who? We arent perfect and of course there are some fringe nut cases like anywhere else who are very loud with their racism. Even with that though I would like to know by what standard we are pretty racist. Please list some better countries. Im sure I could list many, many more that are far worse with racism than you could contend are better than Canada.I live in Canada too, I've witnessed the discrimination my entire life. We, not you and me mind you, but We as a society have an insane double standard in how we interact with people we perceive to be canadian compared to immigrants (or simply not-white in the case of some people). Yeah, people here dont identify as xenophobic, and if you ask someones grandma if she thinks shes racist shes obviously not going to say yes, although she might admit to being homophobic. You wont see people yelling at immigrants to stop stealing our jobs and go home, or hear someone using racial slurs in public, but you know what you'll almost definitely see any random day of the week? Those same people avoiding sitting near certain people on the bus, people changing grocery stores because they don't like the new customers, business owners throwing out resumes that have foreign sounding names without even reading them just because they assume they're here on a study permit, people in restaurants complaining about the volume of the family behind them because they aren't speaking english while ignoring the 6 guys at the bar screaming at the hockey game, etc. We might be "less racist" than certain other countries, but that doesn't mean we're doing things right as a nation, and the general complacency here towards our neighbors who by definition literally act racist but arent Racists is a major part of that. --- a ...
